WindFarm Release 5.0.2.2

Changes from Release 5.0.1.2 to 5.0.2.2

WindFarm changes from release 4 to release 5.0.1.2 are summarised at the bottom of this page and there is detailed information on the release 4 to release 5 changes page.

All the changes have been incorporated in the Help system and updated tutorials, which have more detailed information. If you are interested in upgrading or require more information then please contact ReSoft Ltd.

If you are not a new user and not upgrading to Release 5 then do not download or install release 5.

5.0.2.2

This is an interim release to provide fixes to bugs in the Shadow Flicker and WindFarm 3D modules.

Shadow Flicker

The calculation of times when the horizon crosses the turbine rotor (either in front or behind) has been improved. The start and end times and duration will be affected in these cases. If the horizon does not affect the Sun’s passage across the turbine rotor there will be no change.

WindFarm 3D

A correction has been made to the turbine rotation speed in a recorded video.

5.0.2.1

General

1   There have been a large number of changes to the graphics to improve the display on high resolution displays. One very noticeable change is that the tool bar in every module should display at a reasonable size.

Designer

1   When specifying windows there is a new button to "Copy these windows to other houses”.

2   You can use the local turbine diameter for separation circles.

ZVI

1   Turbines are allowed to be in an exclusion zone e.g. a turbine in a forest. This is a controlled by a check box in the exclusion zone page of the run data editing dialog.

2   The turbine ground height is set to bare Earth height. Previously, if a turbine was in a grid square and 1 to 3 corners of the square were in an exclusion zone the turbine height would be wrong as it would be on a slope created by the points inside the zone.

3   There is a check box on the calculation page of the ZVI run data dialog to specify that the calculation region is extended to the ZVI radius from the turbines. The default for new ZVI runs is use the ZVI radius from the centre of the wind farm. Previously the calculation region was automatically extended.

4   A Change button, which activates additional dialogs, sets the number of additional wind farms in the cumulative page of the edit dialog and the Options / Multiple layouts dialog. It also allows the deletion of wind farms.

Photomontage

1   The "Del" key has been changed from simply deleting exclusion zones to general use (e.g. the main dialog). "ctrl + Del" is now used for deleting exclusion zones.

2   The umbrella order of display puts visible ones first.

3   Umbrellas and markers are not shown for wind farms with all turbines outside the included angle +/- 5.0 degs.

4   The main wind farm can be drawn as the opposite of the marker or umbrella setting. If markers are being drawn, umbrellas are used for the main wind farm and vice versa.

5   Legends are drawn to match those wind farms visible in the displayed view.

6   When View / Legends is selected a new legend display dialog appears that allows you to switch on or off the display of wind farm legends. It also allows you to choose if all legends should be shown even if the wind farm is not in the view.

7   Fog colour can be set using the colour from the photo at the nacelle or blade tip for each turbine.

Grid Viewer

1   Height modification can set the height inside a contour or to add to the height inside a contour.

Changes from Release 4 to 5.0.1.2

WindFarm Release 5 has been developed primarily because of changing visualisation guidelines. However, it has also been upgraded to Windows 10 compatibility and includes later versions of various libraries. None of the new features are available unless you are a new user or have upgraded to Release 5.

Please read the detailed information on the release 4 to release 5 changes page.

All the changes have been incorporated in the Help system and updated tutorials, which have more detailed information. If you are interested in upgrading or require more information then please contact ReSoft Ltd.

If you are not a new user and not upgrading to Release 5 then do not download or install release 5.

Important

New Folders and File Locations

The organisation of the files in a project has been changed. Before release 5 most of the files were stored in the project folder with some additional folders for some modules to store result and intermediate data. There is now a folder for each of the modules detailed below. Some already exist, some are new and some renamed.

The run data files for each module are now contained in its sub-folder, which is created when a module is started. If an old release 4 project is opened in release 5 the program will change or create the new folders, moving files and also updating the references in the files as necessary.
